Our Basic Stud Wall Soundproofing System presents a great option for minimizing the transmission of TV noise and airborne conversations between timber separating walls. With its straightforward installation process and slim design, this system provides an effective solution for enhancing the sound insulation of party walls and separating walls in various residential properties.

We have designed a user-friendly system that can be installed with minimal DIY experience. It involves applying a two layers of Soundproofing Mat and two layers of 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard. This combination of materials significantly improves the sound insulation properties of your wall, effectively preventing noise leakage. Despite its impressive soundproofing capabilities, the system maintains a relatively thin profile, measuring a total thickness of less than 50mm. This ensures that the upgrade doesn't compromise the available space or the aesthetics of your room.

If desired the system can be upgraded by replacing the 5kg Soundproofing Mat with 10kg Soundproofing Mat for improved sound insulation.

Installation Guide

  1. Ensure the wall you are mounting this system to is sound and free from defects is clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, and any other contaminants. Remove all skirting, covings, wallpaper and any loose paint.  If the wall has sockets and light switches these will also need to be removed and temporarily isolated by a trained electrician.
  2. Starting in the top left corner apply Advanced Acoustics Contact Adhesive to the mounting surface ensuring you cover an area slightly larger than the size of the Soundproofing Mat.
  3. Apply adhesive to one side of the Soundproofing Mat, completely coating it. You can apply adhesive to any side.
  4. As soon as the adhesive is applied the adhesive will be cured and the mat can be offered in place, starting from the top. Butt the mat right up to the corner and the ceiling ensuring there are no gaps. Allow the mat to hang to the floor.
  5. Using a clean brush or a roller, press the mat into place, brushing out any air gaps, ensuring you have a good bond between the wall and the soundproofing mat.
  6. Trim the mat at the bottom of the wall ensuring there are no gaps. Re-apply adhesive and seal in place.
  7. If there are any sockets or switches you will need to cut a hole out in the Soundproofing Mat in the correct location.
  8. Repeat the mounting process with the next roll. When offering up the next roll next to the fitted roll, slightly overlap the joint.  When the second roll is in place splice the joint with a utility knife and remove the excess.  There should be no gaps between the two rolls.
  9. Repeat this process until the wall is entirely covered. Ensure there are no gaps between the soundproofing mat.
  10. Seal all the joints with PVC Jointing Tape.
  11. You can now fit the second layer of soundproofing mat, staggering the joints from the first layer.
  12. Repeat the process above, completely covering both surfaces.
  13. Seal all the joints with PVC Jointing Tape.
  14. You are now ready to install the first layer of 15mm Acoustics Plasterboard. Depending on the height of the wall you may need to trim the plasterboard to the correct size.  Leave a 5mm gap between the plasterboard and the adjoining as well as a 5mm gap between the floor and ceiling.
  15. If there are any sockets or switches you will need to cut a hole out in the plasterboard in the correct location.
  16. Starting from the left hand side apply adhesive to the previously mounted Soundproofing Mat ensuring you cover an area slightly larger than the sheet of plasterboard.
  17. Apply adhesive to the back of the plasterboard sheet, completely coating it. Offer it into place leaving the 5mm gap between the plasterboard sheet and the adjoining wall.
  18. Repeat this process until the wall is completely covered in plasterboard. Do not leave gaps between the sheets of plasterboard.
  19. For the final section the sheet of plasterboard may need to be trimmed to the correct width remembering to allow for a 5mm gap between the plasterboard sheet and adjoining wall.
  20. Seal the gap between the plasterboard and the adjoining surfaces with AC95 Acoustic Sealant. Use a caulking gun for precise application and smooth down the sealant for a neat finish. Additionally seal any gaps that have been left in the sheets of plasterboard.
  21. You are now ready to fit the final layer of 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard. Repeating the same process, apply adhesive to the plasterboard already mounted on the wall.  Cover an area slightly larger than the plasterboard sheet to be mounted.  Apply adhesive to the back of the plasterboard sheet to be fitted, completely coating it.
  22. Remember to maintain the 5mm gap. Stagger the joints from the first layer by using the off-cut left over from the first layer of plasterboard.
  23. If there are any sockets or switches you will need to cut a hole out in the plasterboard in the correct location.
  24. Repeat the process until the whole wall is covered.
  25. For one final time apply AC95 Acoustic Sealant in the 5mm gap you have left around the perimeter of the room.
  26. Where you have sockets or light switches fit an acoustic backbox to minimise sound transmission though the hole.
  27. The wall is now ready to be skimmed or tape and jointed.
  28. Reinstate any skirting and covings.
  29. Have a qualified electrician reinstate any sockets and switches.
