How Many Acoustic Panels Do I Need?

Calculating the ideal number of acoustic panels for your space can be a difficult task. Since each room is unique, several factors must be considered. Achieving the perfect coverage is not always possible, but any introduction of acoustic treatment can significantly enhance the space.

As a general guideline, most rooms will benefit from having 25% to 50% of the total surface area of walls and ceilings covered with acoustic panels. While reaching the ideal coverage may be challenging, even a reasonable level of treatment can yield noticeable improvements. The closer you can get to the recommended coverage, the better the results will be in terms of sound control and overall acoustic performance.

Our team of experts can assist you in assessing your specific requirements and recommend the appropriate number of SoundControl Acoustic Panels for your space. Whether it's a boardroom, conference room, classroom, or any other area where sound quality matters, we are here to help you create an acoustically optimized environment that fosters productivity, wellbeing, and a sense of tranquillity.

For immediate assistance the 'Coverage Calculator' Tab towards to the top of the page will help you to calculate approximately the area that you will need to cover based on the dimensions you enter.

Performance Data

Absorption Data for 1" SoundControl Acoustic Panel
Our Acoustic Panels are very easy to install. They are supplied with either Button Fix, D-Rings or Mirror Plates. If you are going to mount the panels on the wall you can use either option. If you are mounting the panels on the ceiling you will need to use the Mirror Plate option. The only thing that isn’t supplied are the screws and plugs. The correct fixing method depends on whether you are fixing to plasterboard, brick or concrete. Check with an experienced tradesman if you aren’t sure what fixing method is best. The acoustic panels are relatively light so you will only need to use 30mm long screws to mount the panels with.

Mirror Plates

The panels are shipped with the mirror plates facing inwards to protect them during shipping. Before mounting the panels you will need to turn the plates around so that the mounting hole is exposed.

Offer up the panel in the location where you wish to fit it. Mark the wall with a pencil where the fixings need to go. Drill the holes with a suitable drill bit and insert the plugs. Offer up the panel again and fix into place with your choice of screws. Repeat until all panels are fitted.

The D-Rings allow you to mount the acoustic panels on the wall in the same way as you would a picture. You can either use picture hooks to hang the panels on or use a plug and screw if you prefer.

Button Fix

Button Fix is an extremely strong and very easy mounting method. We supply the Button Fix Clips plus suitable screws, Buttons and the Marker Tool in order for you to mount the acoustic panels with. The video below explains how to use them. We have found it easier, when completing our own installations, to mount the black clips to the back of the panels and the green buttons to the mounting surface.
