The Advanced Acoustics 2" SoundControl Ceiling Mounted Acoustic Panel is a fabric-wrapped acoustic panel designed to provide broadband sound absorption when fixed directly to the ceiling surface. The panel consists of a 50mm Class '0' open-cell acoustic foam core wrapped in an open-weave polyester fabric, mounted on a rigid backing board with mirror plate fixings for direct ceiling attachment. The increased foam depth relative to the 1" panel delivers significantly improved low-frequency absorption, making the 2" panel the appropriate ceiling specification where reverberation control is required across the full speech frequency range, including the 250Hz octave band.

The 2ft × 2ft (610 × 610mm) format provides 0.37m² of absorption per panel. The compact square format allows panels to be positioned between ceiling fixtures, light fittings, and sprinkler heads. The 2" thickness achieves NRC 1.00 (Sound Absorption Class A) — the highest absorption class — providing effective broadband absorption from 250Hz upward.

Applications

• Ceiling treatment requiring broadband absorption. The 2" ceiling panel is the appropriate specification where reverberation control is required across the full speech frequency range, including low-mid frequencies. In spaces where the 1" panel has been assessed as insufficient — or where the acoustic brief specifies Class A performance — the 2" panel delivers NRC 1.00 from the ceiling plane.
• Open-plan offices — broadband reverberation control. In open-plan environments, the ceiling is a primary reflective surface. The 2" SoundControl provides strong absorption from 250Hz upward at the ceiling plane, addressing both speech-frequency and low-mid frequency reverberation. The 2ft × 2ft format allows panels to be distributed across the ceiling surface between fixtures.
• Meeting rooms and conference spaces. In smaller enclosed rooms, ceiling treatment with Class A panels delivers the highest level of reverberation reduction achievable from the ceiling plane. The 2" panel is the preferred ceiling specification for meeting rooms and boardrooms where the highest acoustic performance is required.
• Spaces with limited wall area. Where wall surfaces are largely occupied by windows, glazed partitions, or other obstructions, ceiling treatment must carry a greater proportion of the total absorption load. The 2" panel's NRC 1.00 performance makes it the most effective ceiling-mounted option for spaces where ceiling treatment must compensate for limited wall coverage.
• Educational environments — classrooms and lecture spaces. The 2" SoundControl provides broadband absorption at the ceiling plane, improving acoustic conditions for students across the full width of the room and across the full speech frequency range.

Installation

Mark the fixing positions on the ceiling using the panel dimensions as a guide. Ensure fixing positions are located on solid ceiling structure or appropriate noggins — do not fix into plasterboard alone without appropriate cavity fixings. Check for concealed services (electrical cables, pipework) before drilling into the ceiling.

For mirror plate fixing: screw the mirror plate to the ceiling at the marked position using appropriate fixings for the ceiling construction, and attach the panel to the mirror plate. Check that the panel sits flush and level before finalising the fixing position.

For grid installations, use a chalk line or laser level to ensure consistent alignment and equal spacing between panels across the ceiling surface. Mark all fixing positions before installing any panels to ensure the grid is correctly laid out.
