The Cinema & Studio Wall Soundproofing System offers the ultimate level in sound isolation. We use only the densest of materials in the build-up of this soundproofing system such as our M20 Soundproofing Mat and 18mm cement boards.  The Cinema & Studio Wall Soundproofing System also utilises the MuteClip Resilient Bar System which is fixed to a stud work which is also decoupled from the existing structure.

Installation Guide

Please Note- This guide is written with the assumption that you have moderate knowledge and experience in construction or joinery.

  1. This system is completely independent of any existing structures. This is done by creating a floating stud wall prior to mounting the MuteClip System.
  2. Build a stud wall 5-10mm off the existing substructure. Use 10mm thick Resilient Sealing Tape around the frame of the new stud wall to decouple it from adjacent surfaces.  Use as few fixings as possible to hold the new frame in place.
  3. Fit mineral wool between the studs of the new frame, ensuring the mineral doesn’t sit beyond the edge of the timber frame nor touch the structure behind. It should be friction held between the studs.
  4. On the stud wall measure up, mark out and fit the correct locations for the MuteClips. The perimeter MuteClips must be no further than 100mm from the adjacent sufaces.  The clips are to be spaced out a maximum or 600mm apart vertically.  The centres are to vary between 600mm and 1200mm centres creating a diamond configuration.
  5. Attach the MuteClip Channels into the MuteClips. The channels should run horizontally.
  6. MuteClip Channels must overlap by 200m if necessary, fix 4 self-tapping screws into the shoulders of the Channels to maintain a secure join.
  7. The Channels must not overlap on a MuteClip. The Channels can be cut to length with Metal shears or a hacksaw.
  8. Fix your 18mm SilentBoard to the MuteClip Channels ensuring you leave a 5mm gap around the perimeter of the wall. Additionally ensure the screws aren’t so long that they touch the timber stud.
  9. Seal the perimeter of the wall with AC95 Acoustic Sealant using a caulking gun.
  10. Attach M20 Soundproofing Panels to the 18mm SilentBoard using Advanced Acoustics Contact Adhesive ensuring you have a good bond between the mat and the plasterboard and that there is no trapped air. Remember to leave a 5mm gap around the perimeter.
  11. Seal the perimeter of the wall with AC95 Acoustic Sealant. Seal any joints of the M20 Soundproofing Panels if there are gaps with AC95.
  12. Fix the first layer of 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard. Maintain the 5mm gap from the adjacent surfaces.  Ensure that the screws are long enough to fix to the MuteClip Channel but not so long that they touch the brick or timber.
  13. Seal the 5mm gap with AC95 Acoustic Sealant.
  14. Fix the second layer of 15mm Acoustic Plasterboard staggering the joints from the first layer. Maintain the 5mm gap from the adjacent surfaces.  Ensure that the screws are long enough to fix to the MuteClip Channel but not so long that they touch the brick or timber.
  15. Seal the 5mm gap with AC95 Acoustic Sealant.
  16. Scrim tape the plasterboard joints and finish with a plaster skim.
  17. Reinstate skirtings and architraves.
  18. MuteClip Channel must not be installed over any opening or vent in the wall. To overcome this, install a MuteClip and Channel section above the opening or vent to support the weight of the system.
  19. If installing this system on a wall with a pitched roof, use one section of channel support by MuteClips along the slanted side to ensure the plasterboard is supported along the edge.
  20. When installing a MuteClip system around a door or window, a piece of Channel and suitable quantity of MuteClips should be installed above each door and window to ensure the plasterboard is supported along the edge.
