Barracuda Ceiling Suspended Acoustic Panel | 800 × 770mm | NRC 0.75 | Class C

The Advanced Acoustics Barracuda Ceiling Suspended Acoustic Panel is a shaped acoustic panel from the Advanced Acoustics Designer Range, designed to hang from the ceiling on steel wire rope. The Barracuda profile is derived from the overlapping scale geometry of the barracuda fish: when multiple panels are clustered in a suspended arrangement, the repeated forms create the impression of a shoal in motion, producing a three-dimensional acoustic installation that is visually engaging from below. The panel consists of a 25mm open-cell acoustic foam core mounted on a rigid 6mm MDF backing board, wrapped in a 100% recycled open-weave polyester cloth available in 31 colours.

The Barracuda measures 800 × 770mm, providing 0.61m² of panel face area. The suspended format treats reverberation from both faces of the panel simultaneously, increasing the effective absorption per panel relative to a surface-mounted installation of the same size. The 25mm foam core achieves NRC 0.75 (Sound Absorption Class C), providing effective absorption of mid and high frequencies. The suspended format is particularly suited to spaces with high or inaccessible ceilings where surface-mounted fixing is impractical, and to environments where the visual presence of suspended panels contributes to the interior design.

Applications

  • Suspended shoal and scale ceiling installations. The Barracuda suspended panel is designed to be installed in multiples, hanging at varied heights and orientations to create a three-dimensional shoal arrangement below the ceiling surface. The overlapping scale profile creates depth and movement in the suspended installation that cannot be achieved with flat rectangular panels. The composition can be scaled from a small accent cluster to a large feature installation spanning the ceiling area.
  • High-ceiling spaces where surface fixing is impractical. Suspended panels are the appropriate specification for spaces with high, vaulted, or structurally complex ceilings where direct surface fixing is not feasible. Wire rope suspension allows panels to be hung at an appropriate height within the room, bringing acoustic absorption closer to the occupied zone where it is most effective.
  • Open-plan offices — reverberation and echo control. Suspended panels treat reverberation from both faces simultaneously. The Barracuda's large format and shaped profile make it suited to open-plan environments where a designed suspended installation is required alongside effective acoustic performance.
  • Hospitality and commercial interiors. The Barracuda's distinctive profile and suspended format make it particularly suited to hospitality environments — restaurants, bars, hotel lobbies, and reception areas — where acoustic treatment is required alongside a premium interior finish. The three-dimensional shoal arrangement creates a bold visual presence that works as both an acoustic and decorative ceiling feature.
  • Educational environments — dining halls, assembly halls, and lecture theatres. The Barracuda's large format and shaped profile make it suited to larger educational spaces with high ceilings where a visually engaging suspended installation is appropriate alongside the acoustic requirement.

Product Benefits

  • NRC 0.75 — effective mid and high frequency absorption, both faces exposed. The 25mm foam core achieves NRC 0.75 (Sound Absorption Class C), with strong absorption from 500Hz upward: 0.65 at 500Hz, 0.94 at 1000Hz, 1.13 at 2000Hz, and 0.99 at 4000Hz. The suspended format exposes both panel faces to the room, increasing effective absorption relative to a surface-mounted installation. Low-frequency absorption is more limited (0.30 at 250Hz).
  • Class '0' fire-rated construction — compliant for commercial use. The acoustic foam core is Class '0' rated to BS 476 Parts 6 and 7, and C s1, d0 to EN 13501-1, meeting commercial fire safety requirements for suspended acoustic treatment in offices, schools, and public buildings.
  • 100% recycled open-weave polyester cloth — 31 colour options. The open-weave polyester cloth is produced from 100% recycled fibre, maintaining full acoustic transparency while providing a durable, abrasion-resistant surface finish. Available in 31 colours — download the swatch card for the full range.
  • Wire rope suspension — compatible with Advanced Acoustics suspension components. Designed for use with the Advanced Acoustics 1.5mm steel wire rope and loop clamp suspension components, available separately. Wire rope suspension allows panel height to be adjusted during installation and provides a clean, minimal fixing detail suited to the Barracuda's designer profile.
  • Large 800 × 770mm format — impactful suspended coverage with distinctive profile. At 0.61m² per panel face, the Barracuda provides substantial coverage per suspension point. The shaped profile creates visual depth and dimension in the suspended installation that cannot be achieved with standard rectangular panels.
  • Handmade in the UK — consistent quality across every panel. All Designer Range panels are handmade in the Advanced Acoustics UK facility using consistent materials and construction methods, ensuring uniform acoustic performance and finish quality across every panel in an installation.

Please note: All Designer Range panels are made to order with a 2–3 week lead time. Suspension components (wire rope and loop clamps) are available separately.

Installation

Plan the suspended shoal composition on paper or digitally before marking suspension points on the ceiling. Vary the height and orientation of panels to create a natural, three-dimensional arrangement. Ensure ceiling fixing points are located on solid ceiling structure or appropriate noggins — do not fix into plasterboard alone without appropriate cavity fixings. Check for concealed services (electrical cables, pipework) before drilling into the ceiling.

Determine the desired suspension height for each panel and cut the wire rope to the appropriate length, allowing for the loop clamp fixing at the ceiling and the panel attachment point. Thread the wire rope through the loop clamp and fix the clamp to the ceiling at the marked position. Attach the wire rope to the panel suspension fixing point and adjust the panel height as required before securing the wire rope in position.

Mark all suspension points before installing any panels to ensure the composition is correctly set out.

How Many Panels Do You Need?

Use this quick calculator to see how many panels you'll need for your room. We'll also suggest a complementary ceiling panel to complete your acoustic treatment.

Please note: This calculator provides estimates only and is intended as a guide. Advanced Acoustics cannot be held responsible for purchases made based on these calculations. For a precise recommendation tailored to your specific room, please contact us at info@advancedacoustics-uk.com.

Our Acoustic Panels are very easy to install. They are supplied with Eyebolts to loop the suspension wire onto. The suspension wire and wire clamps are sold separately and are available on our website. We don’t supply the mounting hooks for the ceiling as the correct type to use depends on the ceiling construction. We recommend you use open hooks to ease installation. If you are uncertain which type of fixing to use we can advise you. Alternatively you can check with an experienced tradesman.

The technical sheet for this product will tell you how many eyebolts are used for suspending the panels, you will require the relevant amount of ceiling hooks, lengths of wire and wire clamps.

To calculate how much suspension wire you first need to ascertain the distance the panel will be suspended. Next add on 20cm to this distance to allow for the loop of the wire at the top and bottom. Next multiply this distance by the amount of eyebolt per panel. This is the amount of suspension wire you will need for each panel. For the wire clamps you will need double the amount of wire clamps by the amount of eyebolts, this will the amount of clamps you will need per panel.

Installation

Mark on the ceiling the correct location of the ceiling hooks and fit the hooks. Fix the eyebolts to the back of the panel. Attach the wire to the eyebolts creating the loops top and bottom to the required length. Hang the panel on the installed ceiling hooks. Repeat until all panels are fitted.
