3m Single Part Resilient Bar

Are you dealing with unwanted noise and vibrations that disrupt the tranquillity of your home or workspace?

Excessive noise and vibration can interfere with your daily life, making it hard to concentrate, relax, or enjoy your environment.

Introducing our Basic Resilient Bar, a simple yet effective soundproofing solution designed to build a 'room within a room.' This thin, vibration-absorbing steel channel is used on timber studs for walls and fixed beneath timber joists for ceilings, effectively decoupling the new wall or ceiling from the main structure. This decoupling reduces both vibration and impact noise, providing a quieter and more peaceful environment.

Benefits of Using Basic Resilient Bar:

  • Versatile Application: Ideal for use on both ceilings and walls, the Resilient Bar system helps bring suspended timber floors into compliance with Part E building regulations for noise control, making it perfect for flats and shared spaces.

  • Enhanced Soundproofing: When combined with acoustic plasterboard and Mass Loaded Vinyl, the Resilient Bar system can achieve significant noise reduction, with improvements in airborne and impact sound well in excess of 300%.

  • Easy Installation: Acoustic plasterboard is screwed to the corrugated section of the bar using self-drilling screws, with a minimum of two layers recommended for optimal results. Additional sound insulation can be gained by installing insulation between the battens.

Technical Information:

  • Length: 3m
  • Overall thickness: 15mm
  • Steel gauge: 0.5mm
  • Weight: 0.37kg/m

Disclaimer: Due to delivery methods, there is a minimum order of 10 bars per order.

1. Begin by installing a wood stud frame with a minimum gap of 5mm from the existing brick wall. Adhere Resilient Sealing tape to the frame perimeter. Fix the timber to the floor, ceiling and adjoining walls with the resilient tape sandwiched between the timber and the adjoining surface. This will help to reduce flanking sound transmission.

2. The timber frame studs should be fitted at a maximum of 600mm centres with noggins.

3. Insert Rockwool between the stud frame, held in snugly between the studs. The cavity should be filled approximately 80% of the depth to avoid the Rockwool from being compressed.

4. The bottom row of Resilient bar should be no further than 100mm off the floor. The top row should be no further than 100mm below the ceiling. The Resilient Bar must not touch any adjoining surfaces.

5. The remaining Resilient Bar should be spaced at no more than 600mm centres vertically. There should be fixings a maximum of 600mm centres.

6. Where necessary ensure that the Resilient Bars overlap by 200mm.

7. Fix your first layer of acoustic plasterboard to the Resilient Bar. Leave a 5mm gap around the perimeter of the wall. The acoustic plasterboard should not be in contact with any adjoining surfaces. Ensure that the length of screws fixing the plasterboard to the Resilient Bar don’t contact the studwork.

8. Seal the gap around the perimeter of the wall with AC95 Acoustic Sealant.

9. Next adhere M20 Soundproofing Mat to the plasterboard in a brick bond fashion using Advanced Acoustics Contact Adhesive.

10. Fix the final layer of acoustic plasterboard, staggering the joints from the previous layer of acoustic plasterboard. Ensure you use screws that are long enough to fix to the Resilient Bar but are not so long that they touch the timber stud. Leave a 5mm gap around the perimeter of the wall.

11. Seal the perimeter and any other gaps with AC95 Acoustic Sealant.

12. The wall is now ready to be dry lined or plaster skimmed.

For a ceiling installation begin by installing Rockwool between the joists, this should be fitted snugly so that friction holds it in place. If required you can use thin wire to keep it suspended. The cavity should be filled approximately 80%.

When fixing the Resilient Bar it should be installed no further than 100mm from the adjacent walls. The bars should be spaced at a maximum of 600mm centres vertically and horizontally. You can now proceed from step 6 in the instructions above. The bar should run perpendicular to the joists. Instead of using M20 soundproofing mat use 10kg Soundproofing Mat.
